Kristen Johnston Replaces the Demanding Abdul

Kristen Johnston

Kristen Johnston will replace the former American Idol judge, Paula Abdul in Ugly Betty.

The 3rd Rock Emmy winner will now play Helen, the recurring office temp role.

Kristen joked about the replacing Paula:

“I’ve always considered myself a poor man’s Paula Abdul,” Johnston says with a laugh. She describes her Betty character as “Amanda in 10 years. She’s still trying to get into the right clubs, wearing tight dresses… tragic. I think (Helen) sees herself as Samantha from ‘Sex and the City.’ Except, of course, she’s a temp.”

Johnston will first appear in the second half of Ugly Betty’s two-hour premiere on Oct. 9.

Paula  is being replaced because of her unreasonable requests during negotiations, including a private jet ride to and from the set of Ugly Betty.

I think Paula places a very high value on her talent, last month she left her judging seat at American Idol due to negotiation issues.
